4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art (4A) is an independent not-for-profit organisation based in Sydney, Australia. 4A fosters excellence and innovation in contemporary culture through the commissioning, presentation, documentation and research of contemporary art. Our program is presented throughout Australia and Asia, where we ensure that contemporary art plays a central role in understanding and developing the dynamic relationship between Australia and the wider Asian region.

4A’s activities facilitate cultural dialogue between Australia and Asia in the belief that Asian cultural thinking significantly shapes the world today and will have an important impact on the future. In Australia we showcase stories, present a multiplicity of perspectives, and explore contemporary concerns and ideas that influence how we, as a nation, engage with Asia. We have a particular focus on art that addresses Asian-Australian experiences and the  contributions that diverse Asian migration has made ⎯ and continues to make ⎯ in shaping Australia. 4A’s focus in Asia is to promote the breadth of Australian artistic talent, seeking to build an image of Australia that is open, progressive and fundamentally connected with our Asian neighbours.

4A has been a leader in Asian contemporary art in Australia since 1996. In the decades since, we have established a highly respected reputation among artists and audiences, and within an expanding network of international art institution peers.  Our long history and ongoing work across Asia is recognised as having raised awareness of Asian-Australian art and culture we continue to celebrate Australia’s diverse cultural heritage and growing links throughout the wider Asian region.

Addison Road Community Organisation is a dynamic grassroots development organisation that manages a unique heritage site on the lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora nation in Sydney’s Inner West.

Its nine-acre site was won for community use in 1976 by an alliance of ethnic welfare groups, local residents, activists, artists and people working in social services. Today, ‘Addi Road’ is home to more than 20 community organisations, art studios, galleries, theatres, a radio station, open green space, gardens and 169 trees. Addison Road Community Organisation runs a Living Museum program to increase awareness and enjoyment of the history and heritage of this special place and its changing communities — from its pre-colonial role as an important water source and hunting grounds, to a 19th century dairy farm and market garden, to a place of enlistment for World War One, to a place of conscription and protest during the Vietnam War.

The Addison Road Living Museum program includes school excursions, a growing collection of images and oral histories, exhibitions, events and an accessible self-guided heritage trail which has audio story-posts along the way. The trail is open whenever the Centre is open (seven days a week from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm) but is less readily accessible on Sundays, when the Marrickville Organic Food Markets’ are open on site.

Adelong Alive Museum tells the stories of Adelong and district, beginning in the gold rush period of 1852 and continuing to the present day. This small but vibrant museum offers a variety of local displays and travelling exhibitions which are rotated regularly.

Narratives of the gold mining era and the commercial development of the town form the framework of the museum’s collection and highlight the accomplishments and failures of the people of Adelong and district.

You will be surprised and delighted by objects, such as the meticulously detailed diorama of the Adelong gold fields site, made by local man Tom Wiles. Be entertained by stories of the commercial and civic development of Adelong, including one room dedicated to the history of the Adelong CWA.

Friendly and knowledgeable volunteers are always on hand: stories of miners and magistrates, storekeepers and school teachers, hoteliers, hawkers and housewives await you at the Adelong Alive Museum.

Imagine a world ruled by fish! Long before dinosaurs roamed the earth, the mighty rivers of the Central West teemed with bizarre ancient fishes–armoured fishes, fishes with lungs and huge predators with jaws like crocodiles. Thousands of their fossils were found at Canowindra and give us a unique glimpse into life during the Devonian Period–the Age of Fishes.

A chance discovery in 1955 revealed an extensive fossil bed dating from the Devonian Period. This 360-370 million year old fossil deposit contains the remains of thousands of freshwater fish. Many were new to science. The best of the fossils recovered so far, are now on public display at Canowindra at the Age of Fishes Museum.

Given there is a plan to reopen the excavation site, who knows what other exciting finds will be made? It’s possible a complete early tetrapod–an ancestor of modern 4-footed, vertebrate, air breathing animals could be found!

Visitors are able to get up-close and personal with the fossils on display and even touch them! Come and visit and learn more about fossils, geology and evolution from one of the most iconic and unique fossil discoveries on Earth.

The Age of Fishes Museum offers visitors and exciting range of permanent exhibitions and activities, occasional travelling exhibitions and well presented additional facilities, such as the Grossi gift shop, a regional Visitor Information Centre, as well as a beautiful garden area with picnic facilities, a timeline walk, giant games boards and fossil dig pits for young visitors.

The museum is also fully accessible. Visitors are encouraged to allow a minimum of 1 and 2 hours for their visit to the Museum.

Few collections worldwide embrace the complete life of the artist, family and their place within the community. Baker’s collection shares stories of war, tragedy, love, the people and places of Macarthur, and the role he played in developing an arts network in Camden. Through our collection and public program of art workshops, Alan Baker Art Gallery has established itself as a vibrant part of Camden’s cultural precinct.

The award-winning Albury LibraryMuseum features state-of-the-art technology, engaging interactive exhibitions, reading and research in one location. Designed by nationally renowned architects Ashton Ragatt McDougall, the facility is Australia’s first library and museum under one roof.

The LibraryMuseum is a superb showcase for national and international touring exhibitions, and for works from the AlburyCity Collection housed in our permanent exhibition, Crossing Place.

This world-class exhibit uses an engaging collection of objects, oral stories and film to tell the story of Albury, from its first contact with the Wiradjuri people, the traditional owners of the land, to the city we know today.

Crossing Place traces the settlement of Albury by land and water; the influx of new settlers who passed through the Bonegilla Migrant Centre after World War II, its federal ambitions, and the impact on the region of the government’s decentralisation policy. Integral to the story is the Murray River. Children can explore a river installation via a special kids only display of river artefacts, animals, sounds and smells.

Crossing Place is the starting point for many of the educational programs offered by the LibraryMuseum, including resources for schoolteachers, an audio tour and guided tours for members of the public.
