About the Role
UTS Gallery & Art Collection is a contemporary art museum within a leading tertiary teaching and research environment. We welcome diverse audiences to engage with contemporary art through curated public exhibitions and programs, learning resources, and publishing.
The Assistant Curator contributes to the production, research and delivery of exhibitions and related public programs for the UTS Gallery & Art Collection. The Assistant Curator supports the Curator and Manager in developing and promoting the capacities of UTS Gallery & Art Collection to enhance the public image and cultural profile of UTS, in service of the UTS Strategic Plan.
If successful in applying for this role, you will be responsible for:
• Contributing to the planning, development, implementation and review of an annual exhibition program in accordance with the UTS Gallery & Art Collection Strategic Plan.
• Working as part of a small collaborative team to undertake in-depth research on contemporary artists, art practices, and discourse to inform the development of innovative and accessible exhibitions, publications, and programs.
• Developing, preparing and delivering research publications, exhibition related material, access and learning guides, promotional, and operational materials for hard copy and electronic dissemination.
• Communicating with the public, staff, students, media and industry to facilitate engagement with and build awareness of UTS Gallery & Art Collection programs.
• Planning and supervision of exhibition installation, and maintenance and invigilation of exhibition spaces.
• Administration of gallery budgets, schedules, payments, records, correspondence and statistics to ensure all necessary requirements and approvals are met.
• Preparing and submitting internal and external funding applications and sponsorship proposals to ensure the sustainability of UTS Art Gallery & Art Collection programs.
• Developing and maintaining effective two-way relationships within the university and externally at all levels of stakeholder involvement.
This position is part time (0.6 FTE, 3 days per week) and appointment will be made on a continuing basis. The candidate should be open to flexible working arrangements, including occasional weekend or evening hours, as needed. This role will be performed in a job share arrangement.
